Panasonic Felios R-BM17 Low Loss Adhesive Enables Improved Signal Integrity for Polyimide Flex Designs
Santa Clara, CA – July 20, 2020 – Panasonic’s breakthrough Felios R-BM17 low loss bonding adhesive designed for the RF705S LCP product line has revolutionized LCP multilayer flex and rigid flex designs since its release in 2017. Previously if one wanted a pure low loss LCP multilayer or rigid-flex design they were required to use a LCP bond film that required very high temperature and high pressure lamination with a melt point very close to the melt point of the copper clad LCP laminate. This required special equipment and manufacturing finesse to enable proper adhesion without delamination or excessive flow. The Felios R-BM17 material solved this by providing a low loss (2.2 Dk/0.001Df @ 10GHz) adhesive with ultra-low moisture absorption that processes under a very similar lamination process cycle as traditional polyimide acrylic adhesive coverlays and bond-plies.
With the growth of 5G applications designers continue to push the boundaries of traditional materials. Polyimide flex materials have always had good signal integrity properties but the weak link in using these materials has been the high moisture absorption and high Dk/Df of the acrylic adhesive systems used in the coverlay and bond-ply materials. The Felios R-BM17 low loss adhesive now provides a hybrid approach to extend the usefulness of a traditional polyimide flex material package and produce a more cost-efficient low loss flex package. The Felios R-BM17 adhesive provides excellent performance with Panasonic’s standard R-F775/770 polyimide-based flex materials and meets or exceeds the performance of many of the newly released low loss adhesives and limited availability modified polyimide flex materials on the market. The Panasonic R-BM17 and R-F775 materials are in stock and available for immediate delivery and sampling from Matrix Electronics. Please contact the Matrix customer service team at any of our four regional North American locations for additional information or for samples.
